Lyndonville Police Department Arrests Brownington Man on Multiple Charges Following Routine Traffic Stop
In a routine traffic stop on Severance Hill Road, Lyndonville Police Department apprehended a Brownington man on various charges, including vehicle theft and identity fraud. The arrest occurred at 2:26 p.m. on December 1 when a patrol officer attempted to pull over a 2017 Jeep Patriot for exceeding the speed limit.
Initially, the driver was uncooperative and attempted to impersonate a relative. However, after further investigation, the driver was identified as 45-year-old Jason Degreenia. Lyndonville Police Department discovered that Degreenia was the subject of two arrest warrants from Orleans County, which included charges of possession of regulated drugs, possession of cocaine, and driving with a criminally suspended license. Additionally, Degreenia was found to be under a lifetime suspension for previous DUI offenses.
The investigation revealed that the Jeep Patriot had been reported stolen from Barton on November 20. As a result, Degreenia was taken into custody by the authorities. During a search of the vehicle, law enforcement officers discovered merchandise with retail tags and security devices, suggesting a potential ongoing investigation into stolen property.
Degreenia is currently being held at the Northeast Regional Correctional Facility. His arraignment is scheduled for December 4 at 12:30 p.m. in Caledonia Superior Court. The charges he faces include aggravated operation without owner’s consent, identity theft, and possession of stolen property over $900.
Vermont State Police provided assistance during the arrest, and the confiscated Jeep was towed by Caledonia Wrecker.
