Two people, including a woman, died in Sambalpur after a mud wall collapsed on them. The victims were identified as Namita Patel and Lalit Dehury. Namita had hired Lalit to demolish a wall, but it collapsed on them, trapping them under debris. Despite being rushed to the hospital, they did not survive. Two individuals, including a woman, lost their lives when a mud wall collapsed on them in Bijadihi within the Kuchinda police jurisdiction on Friday. The victims were identified as Namita Patel (45) from Bijadihi and Lalit Dehury (60) from Kindra village in Kuchinda sub-division.
According to the police, Namita had hired Lalit, a laborer, to demolish a wall of her house in the morning. Lalit began dismantling the wall while Namita stood nearby to inspect the work. Suddenly, the wall collapsed and trapped both of them under the debris.
Upon hearing the loud crash, Namita’s family members rushed to the scene and rescued the trapped individuals. They were immediately taken to the Kuchinda sub-divisional hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, both of them passed away while receiving treatment at the hospital.
The police were informed and arrived at the hospital to seize the bodies for postmortem examination. Sources revealed that the wall collapsed due to its old and weak condition when Lalit attempted to demolish it.
Kuchinda SDPO Amitav Panda confirmed that two cases of unnatural death were registered in connection with the incident. Following an autopsy, the bodies were handed over to the family members. Further investigation is currently underway..
