Two individuals, Caleb Michael Crust and Nicholas J. Dubbs, who were already in jail for their involvement in vandalism at Lakemont Park, now face additional charges after being accused of breaking into the Altoona police impound yard. The two men, both 23 years old, were arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Benjamin F. Jones on Friday. Each of them is facing 13 charges, including felony charges of burglary, conspiracy to burglary, and criminal trespass, along with misdemeanor charges of theft and receiving stolen property.
The investigation began in February when police started reviewing security footage after an item went missing from the Highway Yard. The footage revealed that two individuals, later identified as Crust and Dubbs, were present in the impound yard on multiple nights. Notably, they were wearing the same clothes each night. The video footage also captured the duo taking bicycles and riding them around the lot. On some occasions, they left with multiple bikes.
The police were able to identify Crust when he used his Sheetz card at a store located on the corner of 58th Street and Sixth Avenue. Dubbs, on the other hand, was recognized from previous encounters with the police. During an interview, both men allegedly admitted to breaking into the impound yard and stealing bicycles. A search warrant revealed that their phones were present at the impound yard on several occasions in February and March.
It is worth mentioning that Crust and Dubbs already face charges for breaking into Lakemont Park and causing extensive damage to the basketball courts by riding go-carts. The estimated cost of the damage amounts to over $70,000. Additionally, they have also confessed to burglarizing storage units on October 10.
In summary, Crust and Dubbs have been charged with multiple offenses, including burglary, conspiracy to burglary, criminal trespass, theft, and receiving stolen property. They were caught on security footage breaking into the Altoona police impound yard and stealing bicycles. These charges add to their existing charges for vandalism at Lakemont Park and burglary of storage units..
