Parolee Arrested on Multiple Felony Charges in Hot Springs
Introduction
A parolee with a lengthy history of felony charges in Garland County, Sean Allen Gaw, 41, from Austin, Arkansas, was apprehended by the Hot Springs police early Friday morning. He now faces multiple additional felony charges.
New Felony Charges
Gaw’s recent arrest at around 1:30 a.m. Friday resulted in him being charged with various offenses that carry severe punishments. These charges include possession of drugs and a firearm, possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm by certain persons, two counts of theft by receiving, a misdemeanor count of theft by receiving, and fleeing.
Incident Description
The arrest occurred when Hot Springs police Cpl. Tyler Ward noticed a maroon Nissan Maxima with its hood up in the parking lot of the Dodge Store on East Grand Ave. The vehicle matched the description of a stolen Maxima, and upon running the license plate, it was revealed to be a stolen Nissan Sentra from North Little Rock.
As Ward approached the vehicle, Gaw, later identified as the suspect, got out and started walking towards Ward’s police unit. Ward instructed Gaw to place his hands on the hood of the vehicle. However, Gaw resisted arrest and fled on foot along East Grand Avenue. After a brief chase, Gaw was captured behind a residence on Vine Street.
Discovery of Contraband
During a search of Gaw’s person, officers found a small bottle containing approximately 0.8 grams of a substance later identified as methamphetamine. Subsequently, a search of the stolen vehicle Gaw had been driving revealed more incriminating evidence. This included two glass pipes with burn marks and white residue, a bag containing 2.2 grams of suspected meth, a digital scale, a 9 mm handgun reported stolen from Benton, another bottle with 18.8 grams of suspected meth, and a bag containing various personal items such as driver’s licenses, bank cards, car lot keys, and several garage door openers.
Prior Criminal History
Gaw’s latest arrest adds to his already extensive criminal record. In May 2016, he was sentenced to a total of 20 years in prison for residential burglary, multiple counts of theft by receiving, and multiple counts of forgery. It is worth noting that Gaw was on parole at the time of his 2015 arrest as well.
