60-Year-Old Man Arrested in Statesville for Stealing Construction Materials
In an incident that took place on Sunday night, Statesville Police apprehended a 60-year-old man who was caught transporting stolen construction materials. A vigilant officer noticed a suspicious car near Winston Avenue and Seventh Street that was carrying the materials. The driver of the vehicle was observed stopping on Wilson Lee Boulevard, turning off the headlights, and abandoning the car. Sensing something amiss, the officer approached the driver, along with a passenger in the backseat, later identified as Reginald Glover, a resident of Statesville.
Coincidentally, the police were already aware of an ongoing construction project nearby, so they decided to investigate further. They headed to a newly constructed home in the 1100 block of Wilson Lee Blvd and discovered that the construction materials found in the vehicle matched those used at the construction site. This crucial evidence further linked Glover to the theft.
Interestingly, the driver of the vehicle fully cooperated with the officers, providing them with valuable information regarding the location from where Glover had obtained the stolen construction materials. This cooperative attitude proved beneficial for the driver, as the police decided not to press charges against him, as Glover’s statement explicitly cleared the driver of any involvement in the theft.
Glover, on the other hand, did not escape the clutches of the law. He admitted to the theft and was subsequently taken into custody. Following his appearance before a magistrate, Glover is now facing felony larceny charges for stealing from a permitted construction site, as well as possession of stolen goods. Notably, he was denied bail and had his first court appearance on Monday.
The arrest of this 60-year-old man serves as a reminder that law enforcement in Statesville is committed to maintaining the integrity of construction projects and protecting private property. The swift action taken by the observant police officer, coupled with the cooperation of the vehicle’s driver, ensured that justice was served in this case..
