A Marysville woman was arrested on Monday night after shooting her elderly relatives during a mental breakdown. According to the police, a man reported that his 57-year-old mother had been drinking all day at their house in north Marysville. She consumed two bottles of wine and got into arguments before taking a nap. When she woke up, she became aggressive.
The witness stated that the woman felt misunderstood and continued to drink. About an hour later, the son went outside to smoke and heard his mother stomping through the house. He then heard a gunshot and saw that his elderly father had been shot in the shoulder. The woman also shot her own mother in the stomach. She then pointed the gun at her son, but he managed to escape. The son witnessed his mother pointing the gun at her own head before he charged at her and wrestled the firearm away.
The son called 911, reporting that his mother had gone crazy and tried to kill them all. The woman’s parents were identified as the victims, a 73-year-old father and his 83-year-old fiancĂ©e. The witness mentioned that his mother had several mental health issues.
When the police arrived, they found the alleged shooter waiting to be arrested. She was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of two counts of first-degree assault. The injured seniors were taken to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett for surgery.
During her interview with the police, the woman admitted to having breakdowns occasionally, with the last incident occurring in January. She reported that she started drinking on Friday and couldn’t tolerate the snideness anymore. She expressed anger towards her son and stated that she was tired of everything before snapping. After shooting the couple, she pointed the gun at her own head and claimed not to remember anything after that.
A bail hearing was scheduled for the following day. The Marysville police did not provide any comments on the incident..
