Four Injured in Random Stabbing Incident at Louisiana Tech University
On Monday, an apparently random stabbing incident took place at Louisiana Tech University, resulting in four people being injured. A student, identified as Jacoby Johnson, was subsequently arrested.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred at around 9 a.m. at a sports and wellness facility on the campus in Ruston, located approximately 70 miles east of Shreveport. As the victims were leaving the building, the suspect attacked them before quickly fleeing the scene.
Fortunately, campus police apprehended Johnson without any further incidents just ten minutes after the attacks. He was caught behind a baseball field, as reported by Louisiana Tech Police Chief Randal Hermes.
Victims and Arrested Suspect
The victims involved in the incident include a graduate student and three non-students, as confirmed by the school in an official statement. The severity of their injuries varied, with two victims being transported to a local hospital, one airlifted to Shreveport, and the remaining victim refusing treatment.
Currently, one of the victims is in critical condition at NLMC (Northern Louisiana Medical Center), while the other two victims are in a serious but stable condition. It is worth noting that the victim who was airlifted is a graduate student, whereas the other three victims are not affiliated with the university.
As for the suspect, Jacoby Johnson, a 23-year-old student from Rayville, he was also hospitalized following the incident. However, he has not yet been officially charged, according to the Ruston Daily Leader.
Motives and Investigation
Officials believe that the stabbing incident was an act of random violence. Louisiana Tech Police Chief Randal Hermes stated that it appeared the suspect surprised the victims by running up behind them.
The investigation is still ongoing, and authorities are working to uncover any potential motives or connections between the suspect and the victims. Further details about the incident and the circumstances surrounding it are yet to be released.
