Canada police has released video and images of suspects linked to the shooting deaths of Harpreet Singh Uppal, an Indian-origin Sikh “gang member,” and his 11-year-old son in southeast Edmonton. The police have identified Uppal as a high-level gang member involved in the drug trade and believe that his son was intentionally murdered. Uppal has been identified as an affiliate of the Brothers Keeper gang. This tragic incident comes amidst a diplomatic row between India and Canada over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Nijjar. The Edmonton Police have released surveillance footage and a photograph of the suspects’ vehicle, hoping that it will aid in gathering new information about the shooting that occurred on November 9 at 12 noon.
The released video shows two suspects leaving a black BMW SUV and running towards Uppal’s white SUV. The suspects fired a weapon and fled the scene after shooting Uppal and his son, who later succumbed to their injuries. Fortunately, another 11-year-old boy who was in the car at the time managed to escape unharmed. The police continue to investigate the shooting, and autopsies will be conducted on the victims.
In a press release, Staff Sgt Rob Bilawey of the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Homicide Section expressed hope that the released photo and video clip would jog someone’s memory and provide crucial information to aid their investigation. The police are urging anyone with information related to the shooting to come forward.
This is not the first time Uppal has been targeted. He was previously injured in another shooting at an Edmonton restaurant, which the police determined to be a targeted attack. The Vancouver Sun reports that three gangland killings in Edmonton and Toronto last week are linked to an ongoing gang war, showing the increasing reach of these violent criminal organizations.
The police are also investigating a vehicle fire that occurred in the area after the shooting. They are trying to determine if the burned vehicle, a black BMW X6, is connected to the suspects in the shooting.
The release of the video and images is a crucial step in gathering information and bringing the perpetrators to justice. The police are urging anyone with even the smallest detail that may be related to the shooting to come forward and assist in their investigation..
