Man Arrested After Alleged Burglaries and Police Chase in Habersham County
In a series of events that unfolded in Habersham County, a man was apprehended and now faces a range of charges after allegedly breaking into multiple vehicles and at least two residences before engaging in a high-speed chase with law enforcement officers.
Reports of Burglary Prompt Police Response
The incident began on Sunday when the Cornelia police received reports of a burglary at a residence located on Skyland Drive. Upon reviewing home surveillance footage, officers observed a man attempting to gain entry into the property.
Chase Ensues Following Traffic Stop
During the investigation, officers initiated a routine traffic stop on a truck leaving the vicinity. However, the driver, identified as Joshua Adam Doster, aged 46, failed to comply, prompting a pursuit.
Reckless Driving Leads to High-Speed Chase
Cornelia Police Chief Jonathan Roberts described Doster’s actions as “reckless,” as he maneuvered through side roads within the city limits, leading multiple law enforcement agencies on a high-speed chase that eventually crossed into Banks County.
Pursuit Ends with Overturned Truck
The pursuit ultimately came to an end when an Alto police officer executed a PIT (Pursuit Intervention Technique) maneuver, causing the truck to overturn on Wofford Creek Road before finally coming to a stop on its wheels. Doster was promptly apprehended and taken into custody.
Multiple Incidents Linked to Doster
In addition to the burglary on Skyland Drive, investigators believe Doster was responsible for breaking into a residence on Foster Street and targeting at least six vehicles parked along South Quail Trail, near Old Cleveland Road.
Discovery of Evidence and Drug-Related Objects
While the truck was rolling down the road during the chase, items belonging to the initial victim on South Quail Trail were found scattered along the route. Furthermore, law enforcement discovered a quantity of suspected marijuana, as well as various drug-related objects, such as syringes and cap syringes, strewn throughout the truck.
Charges Filed Against Doster
As a result of their investigation, the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office has charged Doster with second-degree burglary, six counts of entering auto, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug-related objects. Additional charges from the Cornelia police are expected to follow.
The arrest of Doster serves as a significant development in the ongoing efforts to curb burglaries and related criminal activities in Habersham County.
