Fidaim Nerguti, 30, was spotted in a car on Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, with an unknown man entering and leaving quickly. Police suspected a drug transaction and found 12 ziplock bags of cocaine in the car. Nerguti was arrested and given a structured deferred sentence by the court. Eszter Tárnai reported
In October of this year, Fidaim Nerguti, a 30-year-old man, was observed by police officers on Sauchiehall Street. He was sitting in the driver’s seat of a car when an unidentified man entered the vehicle briefly before leaving. The police suspected that this interaction could have been a drug transaction. They attempted to approach the car, but it quickly drove away and turned onto Granville Street. The officers followed and witnessed Nerguti exiting the vehicle, so they approached him and identified themselves.
Although a search of Nerguti’s person did not yield any noteworthy items, 12 ziplock bags containing white powder were discovered in his car. As a result, Nerguti, who resides in Luton, was arrested, cautioned, charged, and taken to Govan police station. Subsequent testing of the powder confirmed it to be cocaine. The estimated value of the drugs amounted to £250, with each bag containing approximately 0.5 grams.
During a recent hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court, Sheriff Bernard Ablett addressed the case. He quoted Nerguti’s explanation, which stated that he and five friends pooled their money to purchase cocaine. The packaging of the drugs, however, appeared to be unusual for an individual purchasing cocaine. Nerguti’s lawyer responded by explaining that the intent behind the purchase was to share it at a party, which could explain why the drugs were divided into separate bags.
Curious about whether Nerguti had specifically requested the drugs to be divided, the sheriff inquired further. The lawyer, however, did not possess that information and instead suggested that a structured deferred sentence would be beneficial for Nerguti. Sheriff Ablett agreed with this suggestion and stated that he would impose a structured deferred sentence to assess Nerguti’s engagement with the social work department. He emphasized the importance of Nerguti’s full cooperation and released him on bail.
