Introduction
In a successful anti-illegal drug operation, a drug suspect was apprehended inside the Ludo-Chinese cemetery in Barangay Carreta, Cebu City. The operation was conducted by the Mambaling Police Station, led by Major Jonathan Beethoven Taneo, and resulted in the arrest of 18-year-old Alvin Ylaya, also known as Odot. The suspect, who resides inside the Chinese cemetery, was found in possession of 405 grams of suspected shabu valued at approximately P2.7 million.
Details of the Operation
The Mambaling Police Station, acting on intelligence information, executed a buy-bust operation at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 12, 2023. The operation was successful in capturing a high-value individual involved in the drug trade. In addition to the arrest, the authorities were able to seize a significant amount of suspected shabu, which had a standard drug price of P2,754,000.
Prior Criminal Record
According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Janette Rafter, the deputy city director for operations of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), Alvin Ylaya has a history of involvement in illegal drug activities. He has been in and out of prison for similar offenses, and his elder brother is currently incarcerated at the Cebu City Jail for drug peddling. Ylaya was first arrested for drug-related charges when he was just 17 years old. Since then, he has been arrested multiple times, with his most recent arrest resulting in the recovery of over 400 grams of illegal drugs.
Another Drug Bust
In a separate operation conducted by the City Intelligence Unit of the Cebu City Police Office, a 31-year-old jobless man named Renan Talledo Pardo was apprehended. The operation took place in Sitio Paglaum, Barangay Bulacao, Cebu City, at 3 a.m. on Monday. Pardo was found to be in possession of 1,220 grams of suspected shabu, with an estimated value of P6,949,000.
Increased Monitoring Efforts
With the upcoming Christmas season and the Sinulog festival, the authorities anticipate an increase in the demand for drugs. In response, the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has announced their plans to intensify their monitoring efforts against drug personalities. This proactive approach aims to curb drug-related activities and ensure the safety and well-being of the community during this festive period.
