A 33-year-old man from Brooklyn named Melquan L. Jordan has been taken into custody after leading police on a sixteen-mile pursuit on November 6. The arrest took place at the Saugerties Town Court on November 8, while Jordan was attending to an unrelated criminal matter. According to reports, the incident began when State Police attempted to pull over a vehicle on State Route 40 in Easton on the morning of November 6. However, the driver, later identified as Jordan, refused to comply with the officers’ instructions and instead embarked on a high-speed chase that eventually came to an end in Troy.
During the pursuit, Jordan drove onto the Uncle Sam Bikeway before abandoning the moving vehicle on foot. As he fled, the car collided with a marked Troop vehicle and came to a halt. Upon further investigation, law enforcement officers discovered bags containing controlled substances and felony-weight narcotics that Jordan had dropped while evading capture. Despite an extensive search of the surrounding area, the police were unable to locate Jordan at the time.
Subsequently, Jordan faced multiple charges, including criminal possession of a controlled substance in the first degree, two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, criminal mischief in the second degree, fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree, as well as other violations of the Vehicle and Traffic Law. Following his arraignment, Jordan was remanded to the Rensselaer County Correctional Facility.
Overall, this incident highlights the dangers and consequences of evading law enforcement officers. The police’s efforts to stop Jordan and their subsequent discovery of controlled substances demonstrate the importance of their persistent pursuit of justice and their commitment to maintaining public safety..
