An 81-year-old woman died in a suspected DUI crash in west Las Vegas Valley. The crash occurred when a Toyota Corolla turned into the path of an Acura TLX, resulting in significant damage to both vehicles. The driver of the Toyota was injured, while the Acura driver was arrested for DUI-related charges. 81-Year-Old Woman Fatally Injured in Suspected DUI Crash in West Las Vegas Valley
In a tragic incident that occurred on Saturday afternoon, an 81-year-old woman lost her life in a suspected DUI crash in the west Las Vegas Valley.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported that the collision took place at around 1:55 p.m. at the intersection of West Charleston Boulevard and South Merialdo Lane. According to the evidence collected at the scene and witness statements, a Toyota Corolla was heading eastbound on Charleston Boulevard, approaching Merialdo Lane, specifically in the left turn lane (L1) with a flashing yellow turn arrow. Simultaneously, an Acura TLX was traveling westbound on Charleston Boulevard in the left travel lane of three (T1), reportedly at a high speed.
The accident occurred when the Toyota entered the path of the Acura. The front of the Acura collided with the right side of the Toyota, causing significant damage to both vehicles, as confirmed by the police.
Emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene and immediately performed life-saving measures on the Toyota’s passenger, an 81-year-old woman. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, the woman could not survive her injuries and was pronounced dead at the accident site.
The Toyota’s driver, an 80-year-old man, sustained injuries and was subsequently transported to UMC Trauma for medical treatment.
The authorities revealed that Fahid Amid, the 35-year-old driver of the Acura, displayed signs of impairment and was subsequently arrested on charges related to driving under the influence (DUI).
With the demise of the 81-year-old woman, the number of traffic-related fatalities in the jurisdiction of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for the year 2023 has reached 131. The full identity of the deceased will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s office.
The LVMPD’s Collision Investigation Section is currently investigating the crash to determine further details and circumstances surrounding the incident.
