A 60-year-old woman named Shaila, also known as Sheela, from Challakere, east Bengaluru, was injured in a car accident on Sunday morning. The accident occurred in Kalyan Nagar when a minivan, driven by a drunk man named Kumar, hit her. The minivan had been driving recklessly and had already hit two other vehicles before crashing into a house’s compound wall.
Shaila and her teenage granddaughter were on their way to a temple to celebrate the Deepavali festival when the accident happened. The minivan, which had been parked on the roadside, suddenly started and drove towards Shaila, hitting her head-on. Fortunately, Shaila’s granddaughter escaped unharmed. After hitting Shaila, Kumar continued driving and hit another parked vehicle and a bike before finally crashing into the compound wall.
Shaila suffered a fractured right leg but is now out of danger. Kumar, who works as a mason, was visibly intoxicated and unable to flee the scene. He got out of the van and sat on the broken compound wall. The police later confirmed that his blood alcohol content was significantly above the legal limit.
Kumar claimed that he had been partying until the early hours of Saturday after receiving a festival bonus. The police have registered a case against him, but he was released on bail.
