KANSAS CITY — A man from the Kansas City area has been charged by Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker for his involvement in a fatal shooting that occurred on November 3rd in the vicinity of 12th and White in Kansas City. Furthermore, he is also facing charges related to other criminal activities.
Keith D. Adkins, a 32-year-old residing in Grandview, has been charged with several felonies, including Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon (two counts), Resisting Arrest, Tampering with a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree (two counts), and Armed Criminal Action (five counts).
According to official court records, officers from the Kansas City Police Department were dispatched to the 6000 block of E. 13th Street in response to a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a juvenile victim lying in the street near a Kia Sportage that had crashed into a pole.
The victim was promptly transported to the hospital, but unfortunately succumbed to their injuries later on. The Jackson County Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be a homicide.
Investigation into the incident revealed that a second victim was found behind a nearby residence. Surveillance footage from the area captured the driver, later identified as Adkins, leaning out of the driver’s window of a black Silverado and firing two shots at the Kia, resulting in the collision with the pole.
Following this revelation, detectives were able to track the stolen truck and observed Adkins with a female passenger. The next day, the black Silverado was located, confirming its reported stolen status.
On November 4th, Adkins and the woman were spotted as the driver and passenger in another stolen vehicle, a Hyundai. This led officers to initiate a pursuit on November 5th, during which the Hyundai recklessly disregarded traffic controls and reached high speeds. The pursuit came to an end when the stolen vehicle collided with another car. Adkins swiftly exited the Hyundai and attempted to flee on foot, but he was apprehended shortly after. He is currently in custody, with bail set at £500,000 in cash.
