A man from the Kansas City area, Keith D. Adkins, has been charged with multiple crimes, including second-degree murder, in relation to a fatal shooting on November 3. Kansas City-area man Keith D. Adkins facing multiple charges
KANSAS CITY — A man from the Kansas City area, Keith D. Adkins, has been charged in relation to a fatal shooting that took place on November 3rd in the vicinity of 12th and White in Kansas City. The charges have been filed by Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.
Adkins, aged 32 and from Grandview, is now facing several felony charges including Murder 2nd Degree, Assault 1st Degree, two counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Resisting Arrest, two counts of Tampering with a Motor Vehicle 1st Degree, and five counts of Armed Criminal Action.
Details of the incident
According to court records, officers from the Kansas City Police Department were dispatched to the 6000 block of E. 13th Street after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a juvenile victim lying in the street near a Kia Sportage that had collided with a pole.
The victim was immediately taken to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to their injuries later. The Jackson County Medical Examiner has since ruled the death as a homicide.
Video surveillance footage from the area revealed that the driver of a black Silverado, later identified as Adkins, had leaned out of the driver’s window and fired two shots at the Kia, causing it to collide with the pole.
Additional crimes and events
Following the incident, detectives were able to track the black Silverado and observed Adkins inside the vehicle along with a female passenger. The truck was later found to have been reported stolen. On November 4th, Adkins and the woman were identified as the driver and passenger in yet another stolen vehicle, a Hyundai.
On November 5th, officers pursued the stolen Hyundai, which was being driven at high speeds and disregarding traffic controls. The pursuit ultimately ended when the Hyundai collided with another vehicle. Adkins then exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by law enforcement. He is currently being held on a cash bond of $500,000.
