A fake doctor was arrested from a health camp organized by the Assam National Health Mission in Morigaon district. The arrest highlights the risks of outsourcing healthcare practitioners. This incident comes after the arrest of nearly 40 fake doctors in Assam since 2017. Kangkan Kalita reported
A recent incident in Guwahati, Assam has brought attention to the issue of fake doctors operating in the state. The fake doctor, Md Sarimul H Mazumder, was arrested from a health camp organized by the Assam National Health Mission (NHM) in Morigaon district. This incident has raised concerns about the outsourcing of healthcare practitioners, as it poses a potential threat to the lives of patients.
Md Sarimul H Mazumder had been working in the mobile medical unit of the health camp for the past 10 days before he was apprehended by the police on Friday. He was subsequently sent to five-day police custody by the Morigaon CJM court. This particular case is especially alarming because Mazumder was arrested from a group of healthcare workers who had been serving in the health camp, highlighting the extent of the problem.
Dr Abhijit Neog, a healthcare professional, has been actively working to expose and apprehend fake doctors in Assam since 2017. In fact, nearly 40 fake doctors have been arrested in the state due to his efforts. However, the case of Md Sarimul H Mazumder is particularly troubling because he managed to deceive authorities while working in a health camp.
Mazumder claimed to be a “gold medalist” in MBBS from Narayan Medical College and an MS degree holder from the renowned Christian Medical College, Vellore. However, investigations revealed that both of these qualifications were fake, as the respective institutions confirmed that they had not issued any certificates to Mazumder.
According to Morigaon superintendent of police Hemanta Kumar Das, Mazumder was serving in minority-inhabited areas of Morigaon district and had previously run a pharmacy. The health camp where he was arrested was taking place in Mikirbheta, Morigaon district. It was later revealed that Mazumder had been outsourced from another organization for the NHM mobile unit.
Dr Neog became suspicious of Mazumder’s qualifications when he applied for jobs in private hospitals in Morigaon. Sankar Patar, the Morigaon district unit secretary of the Assam Medical Services Association, brought Mazumder’s fake certificates to Dr Neog’s attention. In a social media post, Dr Neog expressed his satisfaction with the arrest, stating that Mazumder was the 30th fake doctor caught by his team.
Mazumder even produced a fake document of the Medical Council of India registration of 2022, despite the fact that the council had been dissolved on September 25, 2020, and replaced by the National Medical Commission. This further highlights the extent of Mazumder’s deceitful actions.
In conclusion, the arrest of a fake doctor from a health camp organized by the NHM in Morigaon district has brought attention to the issue of fake doctors in Assam. The incident highlights the potential dangers of outsourcing healthcare practitioners and raises concerns about the authenticity of qualifications. Dr Abhijit Neog’s efforts to expose fake doctors have been instrumental in bringing these individuals to justice..
