A young man was apprehended by the Tripura police and the Railway Police Force (RPF) during a joint operation on Wednesday. The arrest occurred when the youth was caught attempting to send a shipment of over 300kg of cannabis to New Jalpaiguri station in West Bengal via railway parcel. The accused, Uttam Kumar Paul, hails from the Baishnabtilla area of West Tripura district.
On that day, the authorities spotted Paul standing near the railway parcel office with six cartons. When questioned about the contents of the cartons, he claimed they contained mixer grinders and filter boxes. However, upon inspection, the officials discovered that the filter boxes and mixer grinders concealed a substantial amount of cannabis.
“We have recovered a total of 319kg of cannabis. The individual responsible has been apprehended, and our investigation is ongoing to determine if there are others involved in this illegal operation,” stated a Tripura police official on Thursday.
