“The Covington Police Department (CPD) has apprehended a suspect in connection with a homicide case that occurred in April 2022. On April 9, 2022, officers responded to a death scene where they found Betty Goheen, 36, from Munford, dead. Spanyada Adams, 41, of Covington, was determined to be alone with Goheen at the time of her death and initially claimed it was due to a possible overdose. However, during the forensic examination and collection of evidence, it was determined that Goheen’s death was not consistent with an overdose. After a meticulous investigation, the Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Goheen’s death was ruled as a homicide. CPD detectives brought Adams in for questioning and, on November 6, 2023, presented the case to the Tipton County Grand Jury. Adams was subsequently arrested for second degree murder and is currently in custody with a $250,000 bond. Chief Donna Turner expressed condolences to the victim’s family and emphasized the importance of investigating each death case as a homicide until evidence proves otherwise. Anyone with additional information on this case is urged to contact the Covington Police Department.”.
