A Pike County woman named Sabrina C. Howell, 44, from Dicks Fork Road, Sydney, was recently arrested on several charges, including child endangerment, following a collision in the Freeburn area. The Pike County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call about a two-car collision on Ky. Rt. 194 at Pounding Mill Road. Deputy Tyler Cable arrived at the scene and found Howell sitting in the front of the car with her daughter, who was not in a car seat. Howell had rear-ended another vehicle that was attempting to make a left turn onto the bridge. Witnesses reported that Howell’s daughter was not buckled up in the car seat and that Howell asked them not to contact the police.
Deputy Cable noticed that Howell had slurred speech, glassy red eyes, and appeared confused about the location of her vehicle information. When questioned, Howell admitted to taking suboxone that morning. She claimed to be prescribed two doses a day but had only taken one. The occupants of the other vehicle involved in the collision were taken to Tug Valley ARH for their injuries, while Howell was transported to Pikeville Medical Center. At the testing site, Howell refused to submit to a blood test and declined to communicate with an attorney. Consequently, she was transported and lodged in the Pike County Detention Center.
In summary, Sabrina C. Howell was arrested on charges including DUI, wanton endangerment, reckless driving, endangering the welfare of a minor, possession of a controlled substance, prescription of a controlled substance not in proper container first-offense, and failure to appear in court. The incident occurred after Howell collided with another vehicle, and it was discovered that her daughter was not properly secured in a car seat. Howell exhibited signs of impairment and admitted to taking suboxone earlier in the day. She refused to undergo a blood test and declined legal counsel..
