A 56-year-old woman from Richmond, Indiana named Faith Garrett has been charged with felony battery after allegedly hitting a stranger over the head with a meat tenderizer in a parking lot. The incident occurred on November 4, and the victim suffered multiple facial lacerations as a result. The Richmond Police Department received a call reporting the battery, describing the assailant as an unidentified person wearing black pants and a black windbreaker. When the police arrived at the scene, they encountered a woman matching the suspect’s description, who was later identified as Garrett. During a pat-down search, an officer felt a hard, rounded object in Garrett’s left jacket pocket, which turned out to be a black meat tenderizer with a chrome handle. When questioned about why she had it, Garrett claimed it was for cooking.
The victim informed the police that he was walking to his car on North E Street when he noticed someone following him. Once inside his car, with the door still open, Garrett approached and began shouting incoherently at him. After telling her to leave, she pulled out a black hammer from her jacket and struck him on the head. The victim got out of the car, and Garrett hit him two to three more times in the same spot with the meat tenderizer. The victim had three to four small cuts on the left side of his head. Despite being offered medical attention, he declined to be taken to the hospital. He identified Garrett as his attacker.
When questioned by the police, Garrett claimed that she was yelling at the victim because she believed he was drunk. However, she denied hitting him with the meat tenderizer. The arresting officer noted that Garrett smelled strongly of alcohol, had bloodshot and glassy eyes, was unsteady on her feet, and had slurred and disorganized speech. She was then handcuffed and transported to the Wayne County Jail without incident. The meat tenderizer was taken as evidence.
Garrett was released from custody on November 6, according to a corporal at the Wayne County Jail. As of now, there is no information available about her initial hearing date..
