On November 5th, a shocking incident took place in Surat, Gujarat, involving a 19-year-old high school student named Hemraj Badhiya. The incident occurred during a police inspection conducted by a team from Katargam under the Alkapuri bridge. Police Constable Gautam Joshi noticed a car without a registration number plate and tinted windows and signaled the driver, later identified as Hemraj Badhiya, to stop. However, instead of complying, Badhiya accelerated his vehicle.
In a daring attempt to prevent Badhiya from fleeing, Joshi jumped onto the car’s bonnet. Despite Joshi’s presence, Badhiya continued driving for nearly 300 meters with the police officer clinging to the bonnet. The incident finally came to an end when Badhiya was stopped at the wall of Sumul Dairy by the police.
During the ordeal, Joshi sustained injuries and was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment. Badhiya, on the other hand, managed to escape from the scene. However, thanks to technical surveillance, the police were able to apprehend him later. The Katargam police arrested Badhiya and charged him with attempted murder, reckless driving, and violations of the Motor Vehicle Act.
It is worth noting that Badhiya’s father is involved in the construction business, according to information provided by the police.
This incident highlights the dangers faced by law enforcement officers while carrying out their duties and the brazen disregard for the law exhibited by some individuals. The actions of Hemraj Badhiya not only put the life of Constable Gautam Joshi at risk but also endangered the lives of others on the road. The authorities must ensure that appropriate legal action is taken against Badhiya to serve as a deterrent and uphold the rule of law.
Furthermore, incidents like these underscore the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and the importance of educating young drivers about responsible and safe driving practices. Road safety awareness campaigns, driver’s education programs, and regular traffic checks can play a significant role in preventing such reckless incidents and protecting the lives of both law enforcement officers and the general public.
It is essential for the community to stand united against such acts of violence and support the efforts of law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace, order, and safety on the roads. Through collective efforts, we can create a safer environment for everyone and ensure that incidents like the one in Surat become rare exceptions rather than a common occurrence..
