The Columbia Police Department announced the arrest of Maurice Penny Jr., a 39-year-old resident of Columbia, in a social media post on Thursday night. Penny has been charged in relation to the shooting death of Deshon Joseph Houston, a 33-year-old man who was found dead outside a home on Dove Drive. The police post mentioned that Penny was seen with Ja’Shaun Barney, an 18-year-old who was arrested last week and charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon. According to the police, Penny played a role in hindering Barney’s arrest and is accused of hindering a prosecution. He was apprehended on Thursday in the 900 block of Jefferson Street and taken to the Boone County Jail. As of Thursday night, Penny’s name did not appear on the Boone County Jail’s online roster, and charges have not yet been filed on Casenet. Previously, Jajuan Crockett, Damarkus Williams, and Bryton Allen, all residents of Columbia, were arrested in connection with the homicide investigation and have been charged with second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and armed criminal action. They are currently being held without bond at the Boone County Jail. The police are still searching for Alqueze Jones, Deljuan Turner, and Deazes Turner, who are also charged with second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and armed criminal action. Warrants for their arrest were issued on July 7, and no bond has been set. Crockett, Allen, and Williams have upcoming court hearings scheduled. The police responded to the shooting incident on Dove Drive after receiving a report of shots fired. They found Houston dead at the scene and later discovered another related scene on West Gibbs Street near Interstate 70 Drive Northwest. According to court documents, Allen was one of the individuals involved in shooting at Houston from two vehicles, a white Ford Explorer and a gold Acura. The suspects fled the scene, and the stolen Ford Explorer crashed. Despite an extensive search by law enforcement agencies, the suspects were not located at the time. The Ford Explorer had bullet holes, and witnesses reported seeing people shooting from the SUV and someone firing a gun from the sunroof of the Acura. The police believe that Crockett was in the SUV, and Williams was in the Acura during the incident..
