Woman Gives Birth on Street in Mumbai’s Kurla Area
In a shocking incident that took place in Mumbai, India’s financial capital, a 30-year-old woman gave birth on a street in the city’s Kurla area on Thursday (Nov 9). The woman, identified as Suvarna Mirgal, went into labor near the Kamani Junction and lost consciousness soon after delivering the newborn.
Emergency Response and Hospitalization
Upon receiving information about the woman’s delivery, the Mumbai Police promptly dispatched a team led by Nirbhaya Pathak to the scene. They immediately arranged for the woman and her newborn to be admitted to a nearby hospital owned and operated by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Thanks to the swift action taken by the police and medical personnel, both the mother and the child received timely treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.
The Role of Nirbhaya Squad
The Nirbhaya Squad, led by Nirbhaya Pathak, is a specialized unit of the Mumbai Police Department focused on preventing crimes against women, such as sexual harassment, stalking, rape, and acid attacks. Comprising trained female police personnel, the squad conducts regular patrolling in order to ensure the safety and well-being of women in the city.
Established in 2021 following a reported rape incident in Saki Naka, Andheri, Mumbai, the Nirbhaya Squad plays a crucial role in maintaining law and order and protecting women from various forms of violence.
