In Fairview Heights, Illinois, three police officers were injured during a struggle that occurred on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred after a suspect confronted his ex-girlfriend, resulting in his arrest on felony charges. Demarcus M. Lowery Sr., 34, has been charged with three counts of resisting a peace officer in connection with the investigation.
The incident took place at around 6:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the Fairview Heights Police Department. The ex-girlfriend had driven to the police department and called for help, stating that her ex-boyfriend was following her and had threatened her with a weapon. She expressed fear that he would harm her.
As police responded to the scene, they witnessed the suspect pulling up next to the caller’s car and striking a window. In an attempt to deescalate the situation, the police tried to redirect the suspect away from the car. However, the suspect resisted arrest, leading the police to use physical force to control him. Ultimately, a taser was employed to detain the suspect, who was later identified as Lowery.
During the struggle, three officers sustained various injuries. One of the officers required treatment at an emergency room but has since been released.
Lowery is currently being held in the St. Clair County Jail and is awaiting an arraignment hearing.
