Richmond Woman Arrested for Allegedly Striking Man with Meat Mallet
A Richmond woman, Faith T. Garrett, aged 56, has been charged with battery with a deadly weapon after she allegedly attacked an unknown man by repeatedly striking him in the head with a meat tenderizing mallet. The incident occurred on November 4 in the 800 block of North E Street, where the victim reported the assault to local authorities.
The victim stated that as he walked to his car, Garrett, a stranger to him, followed him and began shouting incoherently. When he asked her to leave him alone, she pulled out a black hammer-like object from her pocket and hit him in the head. When the man stepped out of the vehicle, Garrett continued to strike him two or three more times in the head.
The victim sustained several small lacerations on the side of his head, as confirmed by a Richmond police officer who examined him at the scene. Although medical attention was offered, the man declined to go to the hospital.
Shortly after the incident, an officer encountered Garrett nearby, matching the description given by the victim. Upon searching her, the officer found a meat mallet in her pocket. When questioned about the mallet, Garrett claimed it was for cooking purposes.
The officer noted that Garrett smelled of alcohol and she explained that she had shouted at the victim because she believed he was intoxicated. However, she denied using the mallet to strike him.
Garrett was arrested that night but has since been released from custody. She has a history of convictions, including disorderly conduct, battery, criminal trespass, driving while intoxicated, and possession of cocaine. Her most recent disorderly conduct conviction occurred on August 28.
