In a recent incident in Brownsville, Texas, a man named Oscar Humberto Valadez, aged 35, was arrested by the local police on a charge of online soliciting of a minor. According to reports, Valadez allegedly messaged a 15-year-old girl on Snapchat with the intention of meeting her for sexual activities.
The arrest was made after a concerned citizen waved down the police officers at around 2:15 a.m. The citizen claimed that the driver of a vehicle beside them was attempting to engage in sexual activities with a minor. Following the citizen’s alert, the suspect’s vehicle caused a minor traffic accident by merging into another lane once the traffic light turned green. This led the police to conduct a traffic stop on both vehicles involved in order to gather more information.
Further investigation revealed that the 15-year-old girl, who is the sister of the reporting party, had been conversing with an individual on Snapchat who claimed to be 20 years old. The girl informed her brother that the man wanted to meet up with her to smoke marijuana and engage in sexual activities. Based on this information, the girl’s brother took over the conversation and made plans to meet the man, intending to confront him. When they arrived at the agreed location, the brother confronted Valadez, who remained in his vehicle and eventually drove away. The girl’s brother followed Valadez and managed to flag down the police officers for assistance.
During the investigation, the girl’s brother provided the police with evidence of the conversations on Snapchat, which clearly showed the girl stating her age as 15 and Valadez admitting to being 20 years old. However, Valadez refused to answer any questions without the presence of a lawyer and was subsequently taken to the Brownsville City Jail. His bail has been set at $20,000.
