A female conservancy worker in Chennai was fatally run over by a truck after being hit by a car while cleaning the East Coast Road. The car driver was arrested, but the truck driver escaped. The police are currently searching for the truck driver. Sindhu Kannan reported
A tragic incident occurred in Chennai on Thursday night, where a female conservancy worker employed by the Chennai Corporation lost her life while cleaning the East Coast Road in Thiruvanmiyur. The victim, identified as Sivagami from Kannagi Nagar, was performing her duties near the RTO office around midnight when the accident took place.
As Sivagami was cleaning the road, she was struck from behind by a car, causing her to fall onto the road. Unfortunately, she was then run over by a speeding truck. Although the car driver stopped his vehicle, the truck driver fled the scene. Sivagami was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but she was declared dead upon arrival.
The Adyar traffic investigation police have taken action by registering a case and apprehending the car driver, Ashwanth, aged 25, from Mugalivakkam. However, the search for the truck driver, who escaped, is still ongoing.
This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by conservancy workers who work tirelessly to keep our streets clean.
