According to officials, a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was killed in unprovoked firing by Pakistan Rangers along the International Border in the Ramgarh sector of Samba district. This is the third ceasefire violation by Pakistan since October 17.
The deceased has been identified as head constable Lal Fam Kima of the 148th battalion of the BSF. He was posted at Narayanpur post in Ramgarh and hailed from Aijwal in Mizoram.
The firing began around 11.59 pm on Wednesday when Pakistani Rangers opened fire at Narayanpur post from their Ashraf post. The BSF retaliated in equal measure, resulting in a exchange of fire between the two border guard forces.
Head constable Lal Fam Kima was hit by enemy bullets in the stomach when he came out of the post around 11.59 pm. He was immediately evacuated to the Ramnagar community health centre and then rushed to the Military Hospital in Satwari. However, he was declared brought dead at the military hospital around 2.30 am.
The BSF’s commandant of “F” company, 148th battalion, Navin Kumar Gupta, lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the Ramgarh police station regarding the incident.
The unprovoked firing by Pakistani Rangers caused panic among villagers in the Ramgarh area, who sought refuge in bunkers.
In response to the incident, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid tribute to Lal Fam Kima and laid a wreath on his mortal remains. He stated that Kima’s bravery and sacrifice will never be forgotten. The Director General and all ranks of the BSF also paid tributes to the head constable.
