A shocking incident of a brazen smash-and-grab-style robbery at a jewellery store in Brampton has been captured in a recently surfaced online video. The local police have already charged one individual in connection with this audacious crime, which occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at a store situated inside the renowned Bramalea City Centre.
Disguised Armed Robbers Demand Money and Jewellery
According to the investigators, three culprits entered the store wearing disguises to conceal their identities, armed with hammers. The suspects allegedly demanded money and jewellery, forcefully smashing display cases in the process and successfully stealing a substantial amount of merchandise, as can be seen in the video.
The video, shared on Instagram by the targeted store, captures the assailants wearing masks and hoodies, relentlessly smashing display cases with their hammers. Throughout the footage, security officers can be heard repeatedly yelling “drop the hammer” as they apprehend one suspect, while the other two flee the scene.
No Injuries Reported
Thankfully, no injuries were reported among the store staff or security officers present during the robbery.
Mall Security’s Swift Response Praised
A spokesperson for the Bramalea City Centre, in a statement given to CTV News Toronto on Thursday, commended the mall’s security team for their quick response, ensuring that no one was injured before the arrival of the police.
“The Peel Regional Police are currently conducting an investigation, and we are fully cooperating,” stated the spokesperson.
Charges Filed, Further Investigation Underway
One of the suspects, identified as 18-year-old Even Sosa-Reyes from Brampton, has been charged with robbery and wearing a disguise. He appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton for a bail hearing on Thursday. Police anticipate that additional charges may be filed as the investigation progresses.
