86-Year-Old Man Dies after Tragic Crash in Grant County, Wisconsin
A devastating incident occurred earlier this week in Grant County, Wisconsin, resulting in the death of an 86-year-old man, as confirmed by officials on Thursday.
According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, the elderly man, who resided in rural Dodgeville, was driving an SUV with two passengers on Monday. The vehicle was traveling eastbound on County Road A, situated west of County Road D. Tragically, the driver failed to slow down at a T-intersection and collided with an embankment on the east side of County Road D, located in Platteville.
After the collision, the SUV continued its path, traversing several hundred feet into a cornfield before finally coming to a halt.
The authorities received information about the crash at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Monday. First responders promptly arrived at the scene, extricated the driver from the wrecked vehicle, and immediately transported him to a nearby hospital.
Tragically, the driver, identified as Eugene Schriefer, passed away the following day while receiving medical care. The Sheriff’s Office suspects that Schriefer may have experienced a medical emergency just before the crash. Consequently, they are conducting further investigations to determine the exact cause of his death.
The two other passengers, an 84-year-old resident of Dodgeville and a 76-year-old resident of Mineral Point, sustained minor injuries during the incident.
It is worth noting that all individuals involved in the accident were wearing their seatbelts, as confirmed by the Sheriff’s Office.
