Two individuals were apprehended on Friday, November 3 after a pursuit that spanned three counties in Indiana, as stated in a press release by the Indiana State Police. The incident began when Trooper Kegan Kern of the Peru Post noticed a 2018 Dodge Durango with expired registration returning to a different vehicle while patrolling on U.S. 31 in Miami County at around 9:35 p.m. The driver, later identified as Marion McGrew, a 19-year-old from Indianapolis, immediately fled at high speeds, initiating a chase through Miami, Fulton, and Marshall county roadways. During the pursuit, McGrew reached speeds of approximately 115 miles per hour, passing vehicles on the right shoulder and briefly turning off the vehicle lights.
The pursuit continued north on U.S. 31 until it reached Sweetgum Road in Marshall County. Deputies had strategically placed tire deflation devices across the roadway, hoping to disable the fleeing vehicle. However, McGrew managed to evade the devices by maneuvering off the road, and then proceeded to head westbound onto 9A road. He further continued onto King Road, where he blatantly ran a red light at the intersection of US 30. At this point, the Indiana State Police decided to terminate the pursuit, but the Fulton and Marshall County Deputies continued their pursuit of the suspect.
Within moments, the Indiana State Police received information that the Dodge had crashed into a field. Both McGrew and his passenger, Pierre Robinson, a 19-year-old from Mishawaka, were apprehended without any resistance. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the crash. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that McGrew did not possess a valid driver’s license, and the Dodge had been reported stolen from Chicago, Illinois. A subsequent search of the Dodge unveiled multiple firearms and suspected marijuana. Additionally, it was revealed that McGrew had two active felony warrants from Iowa. As a consequence of the pursuit and subsequent investigation, McGrew was charged with several offenses, including Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle, Theft of a Vehicle, Unlawful Carrying of a Handgun, Aggressive Driving, Operator Never Licensed, and Reckless Driving.
Robinson, the passenger in the stolen vehicle, also faced charges, including Theft of a Vehicle, Unlawful Carrying of a Firearm, and Possession of Marijuana. The apprehending officer, Trooper Kegan Kern, received assistance from various law enforcement agencies, including the Indiana State Police Peru Post, Indiana State Police Bremen Post, Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Bremen Police Department, Marshall County EMS, and Lyons Towing.
In conclusion, the pursuit and subsequent arrest of Marion McGrew and Pierre Robinson involved a high-speed chase across multiple counties. The stolen vehicle, firearms, and drugs discovered during the investigation further compounded the charges against them. The collaborative efforts of various law enforcement agencies were instrumental in the successful apprehension of the suspects..
