A judge in Portland has set bail at $75,000 for Mickleen Daniel, a woman who was involved in a fatal drunk driving accident on state Highway 500. The crash resulted in the death of two passengers. Mickleen Daniel, who is 20 years old, appeared in court via Zoom from the Clark County Jail, where she is currently being held. She was in a wheelchair due to a broken back and road rash sustained in the accident. Judge Robert Lewis has imposed several conditions on Daniel if she is released on bail, including abstaining from alcohol and drugs, random urine analyses, and wearing an alcohol monitor. Her arraignment is scheduled for November 20th.
The collision occurred at around 12:36 a.m. near Highway 500 and Thurston Way. When Washington State Patrol troopers arrived at the scene, they found an Infiniti QX56 overturned on Thurston Way, having crashed through a guardrail on the highway. One person was ejected from the vehicle, and two others were trapped inside. Unfortunately, 23-year-old Jayson Jimmy was pronounced dead at the scene. The other trapped passenger, 21-year-old Kamina M. Asimi, was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center but succumbed to her injuries.
During initial contact with the troopers at the hospital, Daniel claimed to be the driver but stated that she couldn’t remember what happened. However, the troopers noted the smell of alcohol on her breath and observed bloodshot and watery eyes. Daniel admitted to consuming one or two shots of alcohol. A preliminary breath test conducted an hour after the accident revealed a blood-alcohol content of 0.093, exceeding the legal limit of 0.08 in Washington. Her blood was also sent to the state crime lab for further toxicology testing. Once cleared by hospital staff, Daniel was arrested and taken to the Clark County Jail..
