In Las Vegas, a 28-year-old man named Jose Oseguera has been arrested and charged with open murder after allegedly shooting and killing his roommate during an argument. The incident took place on November 5 in the 5900 block of Samia Court. When the police arrived at the scene, they discovered a man lying in the roadway with a gunshot wound to his body. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
At the scene, law enforcement officers found Oseguera with a handgun near him. They promptly handcuffed and took him into custody. A subsequent search of Oseguera’s home led to the discovery of two cartridge cases and a live cartridge.
During the investigation, detectives interviewed Oseguera and learned that he lived in the house with his girlfriend and children. Recently, his brother and another man known as “Johnny” had started renting a room in his home. Oseguera recounted that the night before the shooting, he and Johnny had spent time in the backyard, having a bonfire and consuming several alcoholic beverages.
According to Oseguera, an argument ensued when Johnny expressed dissatisfaction and insinuated that he was not allowed to use certain amenities in the house, such as pots and pans, the stove, and the fridge. Oseguera disputed Johnny’s statements, and the argument escalated with further insults being exchanged. Eventually, Johnny threatened to return later and harm Oseguera and his family.
Feeling threatened, Oseguera retrieved his firearm, emphasizing that he never aimed it at Johnny while they were inside the house. He claimed that Johnny did not possess or imply having a weapon and remained unarmed. Oseguera alleged that Johnny continued to hurl insults and threats, leading him to ask Johnny to leave the premises.
The argument continued outside the house, and Oseguera fired a warning shot, unintentionally hitting a neighboring car. He then fired another round, striking Johnny. Oseguera ejected the magazine from his firearm, placing it on the street, and awaited the arrival of the police.
However, when detectives interviewed Oseguera’s girlfriend, she claimed that there had been a physical altercation between Oseguera and Johnny, with a struggle over the gun resulting in Oseguera emerging as the victor. Subsequently, detectives determined that this was a false claim of self-defense made by Oseguera’s girlfriend.
As a result of the investigation, Oseguera was arrested and charged with open murder. He was taken to the Clark County Detention Center..
