LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — According to an arrest report, a Las Vegas man has been accused of shooting at the father of his girlfriend’s children in a Walmart parking lot on Halloween. The suspect, identified as Elante Hines, 31, is facing multiple charges including child abuse, two counts of attempted murder, and two counts of discharging a gun into an occupied structure.
The incident took place on October 31, just before 3 p.m., when officers responded to a shooting report at the Walmart located on Charleston and Decatur boulevards. Upon arrival, law enforcement met with a man who explained that he had gone to Walmart and encountered his children’s mother, along with her four children, two of whom were his own, and another man, later identified as Hines.
The man informed the police that while he was inside the store, he spotted his daughters and picked one of them up before engaging in a conversation with their mother. According to the victim’s statement in the arrest report, he noticed Hines but didn’t pay much attention to him. There was no argument or disrespect between them during their conversation.
Video surveillance footage revealed that when Hines exited the store, he went to his black Dodge Charger and retrieved something from it. Upon returning, the victim heard Hines say to the mother of his children, “Let him come outside and see what happens.” The surveillance footage also showed Hines reentering the store with a gun tucked into his waistband.
They all proceeded to walk outside, and the victim put his daughter down. It was at this moment that the victim witnessed Hines pulling out the gun and firing shots at him, as stated in the arrest report. Hines subsequently left the scene with the children and their mother in the Dodge Charger.
During a records check, it was discovered that Hines was already a suspect in a separate attempted murder case, resulting in an existing arrest warrant for him. Detectives conducted a photo line-up, which led to the victim positively identifying Hines as the suspect.
On November 2, around 10 a.m., officers apprehended Hines at a friend’s house, and he was subsequently taken into custody. He is currently being held at the Clark County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in court on November 21..
