An official statement from the police revealed that they received information from a reliable source regarding the transportation of narcotics from Manipur in a Bolero pick-up vehicle. Acting swiftly, the STF intercepted the vehicle in Amingaon and uncovered the narcotics, which were concealed in secret chambers within the vehicle.
In total, the STF recovered 36 packets of opium, each weighing 1kg. The estimated value of the seized narcotics in the illegal market is around ₹6 crore.
The individuals arrested in connection with this drug bust have been identified as Safiqul Ali (39), Mamtul Ali (31), Raju Ajli (35), and Ainul Haque (38). All of them are residents of Rangia in Kamrup.
According to CM Sarma, since May 2021, a staggering 7,348 cases related to the transportation and sale of narcotic substances have been registered across Assam. The police have made 12,229 arrests so far, with individuals hailing from various states, including Manipur, Mizoram, West Bengal, Haryana, Punjab, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam.
