Ottawa police have successfully apprehended a suspect believed to be involved in a shooting incident that occurred in the city’s bustling downtown core earlier this summer. The incident, which took place on Clarence Street near the ByWard Market at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, resulted in the injury of four individuals, including innocent bystanders.
The Arrest and Charges
The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) announced that a 17-year-old has been taken into custody and is facing multiple charges related to the incident. These charges include assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, aggravated assault, and various firearms offenses. The arrest was made through the collaborative efforts of the OPS Guns and Gangs Unit, Neighbourhood Resource Teams, the Repeat Offender Provincial Enforcement Unit (ROPE), and with the support of the Toronto Police Service Guns and Gangs Unit and Emergency Task Force. The youth was apprehended in the Greater Toronto Area over the weekend.
