In the early hours of Tuesday, November 7, 2023, a 40-year-old man named Esmiraldo Inilog, who works as a habal-habal driver, was shot by his own cousin in Barangay Patong, Badian town, located in southwest Cebu. The incident occurred after the victim allegedly overpowered his cousin in a fistfight.
As a result of the altercation, Esmiraldo sustained gunshot wounds in his left hand and leg. The suspect, identified as Joseph Inilog Bornea, was subsequently apprehended the following day, Wednesday, in his residence during a police follow-up operation.
Major Philip John Libres, the chief of the Badian Police Station, informed SunStar Cebu that the authorities found a .38 revolver with three live rounds in Bornea’s possession. Investigations revealed that the two individuals had been drinking together before the fistfight broke out due to their intoxication.
Following the confrontation, witnesses reported that Bornea pursued Esmiraldo as he was leaving, ultimately firing multiple shots at him. The victim’s injuries were severe, requiring medical attention and further investigation by the police.
