In Eunice, Louisiana, an armed robbery took place at the Walmart Shopping Center on November 1, 2023, at around 0947 hours. The victim, a woman, had just finished shopping and was loading her toddler grandson and the purchased merchandise into her vehicle. While facing the rear of the car, she heard a male voice coming from the driver’s side door, which was still open. To her surprise, she saw a white man standing in the doorway, holding a Glock handgun pointed towards the ground. The man assured her that he wouldn’t harm her but needed her vehicle. Concerned for her grandson’s safety, the victim asked if she could remove him from the vehicle, and the man allowed her to do so. However, he also demanded her purse, which she reluctantly handed over. The victim then ran towards Walmart with her grandson to seek help from the Eunice Police Department. Meanwhile, the suspect fled the scene in her vehicle.
Shortly after the incident, the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office contacted the Eunice Police Department to inform them about Gage Quebedeaux, a 21-year-old white male from Breaux Bridge. Quebedeaux was a suspect in a shooting, attempted home invasion, and violation of a protective order in St. Martin Parish. It was reported that he was armed and suicidal, heading towards Eunice in a black 2005 Chevrolet Silverado with a white sticker on the back and a tool box in the truck’s bed. Interestingly, Quebedeaux’s truck was found in the Walmart parking lot, just a few spots away from where the victim’s vehicle had been parked.
Further investigation revealed that the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office had issued a “be on the lookout” (bolo) for Quebedeaux, and the active phone pings matched the time of the armed robbery. The description of Quebedeaux’s truck provided in the bolo perfectly matched the one found in the Walmart parking lot. At approximately 1251 hours on November 1, 2023, the Eunice Police Department received a call from the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office, informing them that the victim’s vehicle had been recovered and that Quebedeaux had been apprehended.
As a result, Eunice Police will be issuing warrants for Quebedeaux’s arrest on charges of armed robbery and carjacking..
