San Antonio police officers initially believed that the victim had died from a drug overdose. However, further investigation through an autopsy revealed that the victim’s body told a different story.
A man named Robert Green Jr. has been arrested and is now behind bars, accused of killing Richard Garcia, a 43-year-old man at an apartment complex near downtown San Antonio. The crime took place on August 22 when San Antonio police responded to a disturbance call at the Parkside Apartments on N. Frio St.
According to an arrest affidavit, a witness called the police, reporting that Garcia was outside the apartment complex “yelling and screaming.” As officers were on their way, the witness called again, stating that Garcia was now “slumped over.”
When officers arrived at the scene, they initially believed that Garcia was suffering from a drug overdose and administered a single dose of Narcan. However, despite the efforts of EMS crews who arrived shortly after, Garcia could not be saved and died at the scene.
An autopsy later revealed that Garcia’s death was not caused by a drug overdose. The Bexar County Medical Examiner determined that Garcia had been shot in the chest with a BB gun, according to the arrest affidavit.
Investigators were able to track down witnesses who provided disturbing details of what happened that fatal night. According to the arrest warrant, Garcia had engaged in a heated argument with Robert Green Jr. over a bicycle at an apartment. Witnesses told detectives that Green then shot Garcia with a “long pellet gun” and instructed one witness to “drag the victim further down the sidewalk and give the victim a fentanyl pill.”
It remains unclear if the fentanyl pill allegedly given to Garcia contributed to his death, but the Medical Examiner ruled it as a homicide. Green was arrested and charged with Manslaughter, with his bond set at $125,000. In addition to the Manslaughter case, Green is also facing a charge of Fraud unrelated to the incident. SAPD detectives found stolen credit cards and identification cards in Green’s wallet last year, leading to this separate charge. The arrest warrant for the Fraud case indicates that there are multiple victims involved.
In conclusion, Robert Green Jr. is currently in custody, accused of killing Richard Garcia at an apartment complex in San Antonio. The investigation initially pointed towards a drug overdose, but an autopsy revealed that Garcia had been shot with a BB gun. Witnesses provided accounts of a heated argument between Garcia and Green, leading to the fatal shooting. Green now faces charges of Manslaughter and Fraud, with the stolen credit cards and identification cards found in his possession last year playing a role in the separate charge..
