Suspects involved in a high-speed chase through the streets of Port St. Lucie are now facing charges for robbing a mail carrier in Miami Beach. The dramatic pursuit came to an end when law enforcement apprehended both individuals and placed them under arrest. A police officer at the scene reported, “They’re doing a felony stop right now. Driver’s out of the vehicle.” A police helicopter captured the moment the suspected criminals were apprehended in St. Lucie County.
The two suspects were taken into custody on Sunday after their vehicle matched the description provided by officers. The vehicle was connected to a strong-arm robbery that occurred the previous day in Miami Beach, where a postal worker was targeted. Sources familiar with the investigation revealed that the initial crime took place near Drexel and 16th Street, in close proximity to the Lincoln Road Mall. The victim, a postwoman, was robbed of her master key.
Recently, there has been a surge in thefts of arrow keys, which are used to open mail and collections boxes. Numerous arrests have been made across the state of Florida this year in connection with arrow key thefts. In this particular case in St. Lucie County, one of the suspects attempted to flee on foot from the passenger side of the vehicle but was eventually apprehended by officers. The capture of his alleged partner required more effort, with law enforcement surrounding a house and drawing their guns before the suspect surrendered.
The two suspects, identified as Jalen Dennis Elliot and Bernard J. Davis, both 19 years old, have been charged with fleeing and eluding police. They are currently in jail on a federal hold for their alleged involvement in the arrow key robbery. The Miami division of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, along with the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, Miami Beach Police Department, and U.S. Attorney’s Office, are actively collaborating on the investigation.
The Port St. Lucie Police and Florida Highway Patrol were also involved in this case. Additionally, the suspects are expected to face federal charges.
