Unfortunate Accident Occurs on Chalk Bed Road
An unfortunate accident that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, August 5, has resulted in the untimely passing of a man from Augusta. The Aiken County Coroner’s Office has released information regarding the incident, which occurred at approximately 1:50 a.m. in the 300 block of Chalk Bed Road.
Stephen A. Hicks Identified as the Victim
According to the accounts, 36-year-old Stephen A. Hicks has been identified as the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident. The Aiken County Coroner’s Office, through surveillance footage and other evidence, has confirmed Hicks’ presence at the scene.
Vehicle Collision with Fatal Consequences
The investigation conducted by the Coroner’s Office revealed that Hicks was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck when he lost control, veered off the right shoulder of the road, and collided with a tree. Tragically, Hicks was pronounced dead at the scene.
Absence of Seat Belt Worsens Outcome
The investigation findings also indicate that Hicks was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, which significantly contributed to the severity of his injuries and ultimately led to his untimely demise. The Aiken County Coroner’s Office, after a thorough examination, determined that Hicks had passed away before any medical assistance could be administered.
