Greenville County dispatch has confirmed that deputies are en route to the Haywood Mall in response to a call reporting shots fired. The incident was reported at 6:11 p.m. on a Saturday.
A statement from the police was issued shortly before 6:30 p.m. on the same Saturday, revealing that numerous individuals were seen fleeing the mall, claiming that someone was discharging a firearm. However, upon arriving at the scene, the officers found no concrete evidence of a shooting thus far. Instead, they received information that several juveniles were inside the mall, engaging in a seemingly harmless activity of popping balloons in the parking garage area. Nevertheless, the police are taking the situation seriously and are actively working to confirm whether there is any actual shooting incident at the mall.
As a safety measure, the Haywood Mall has been placed under lockdown.
